Pediatrics, by definition includes specializing in the area of children up to 18 years of age. However, adolescents in the Pediatrics age group have their own teen-specific health and wellness concerns. Adolescent medicine is now a recognized sub-specialty of Pediatrics, which specifically addresses teen issues including health and prevention, puberty and sexuality and importantly the many social challenges that today's adolescents face.
